Please forgive the horribly punny title! I've been wanting to post on this for a little bit... While it may just reflect an extrapolation of all the fur that is (unexplicably) re-entering designer collections, it is also true that fashion is no stranger to capitalizing on fetishism (hello, Gaultier!)
I can't say that I know a whole lot about Furry culture, but I do know that it is definitely entering the public consciousness on an ever-increasing basis. A coworker of mine was really into Second Life introduced me to the concept--- people "dress" as anime-style animals and do it like they do on the Discovery Channel. It seems that art may soon imitate life...
At top, a scan from the latest issue of Missbehave ( a quarterly mag that is like baby Nylon with a decidedly female target audience) which featured a fashion editorial on swimsuits, juxtaposed with Furries. By the way, Missbehave? Good rag.
Also shown, stills from the Ne'-net show at Japan Fashion Week a couple of weeks ago, showcasing street-worthy Furry style. Interesting? Yes. Scared? Mmm... a little.
More posts on Japan Fashion Week to follow...
