John Varvatos and CBGB

This via Reuters UK...

So, as you may or may not know the legendary CBGB's shut down in 2006. Really too bad, but also a reflection of the times. Whether you like it or not, rock and roll is dead. Not that it can't come back to life... but Rock of Love, Pirates of the Carribean 3 and Dave Grohl's Veronica Lake-style Grammy waves are not good signs that rock is alive and well.

... this is actually a pic from the VMA's...

John Varvatos has just bought CBGB's and opened a shop in there selling rock and roll type gear (vintage boots for $400? I must be sitting on a gold mine here! Speaking of which, if you, like I, have been seeking the perfect oxfords, bid on this tri-tone pair!)

The club's decor is still relatively intact, but damn... CBGB should not have had to fight to stay open. I get so angry when I think about how America constantly paves over its history and puts a mall on top of it! I think Joni Mitchell sang it best...

And it's cute that John has his little rock 'n' roll shop and I admire him trying to preserve some of CBGB's for people to enjoy/reflect/whatever, but... snarl!
