Peep (ha!) This!

Are these shoes not amazing? I've had heeled sneakers on the brain lately, and these wedges completely fit the bill in a classy-yet-novel, 40's way. And, I found them at www.delias.com, a departure from their usual, more trend-oriented wares.

I'd wear them with cuffed, dark cropped jeans and this shirred, red and white tube top from the Seventies I got from the fabulous Beacon's Closet in Williamsburg.

Also essential to this outfit: A vintage bike with a crate tied to the front of it.

I didn't know they did this anymore!

I went visiting friends and family this past weekend in Cincinnati, and a visit to the 'Nati brings with it the inevitability of some juicy thrifting.

Across the street from the Valley Thrift Store on Reading Road (my go-to thrift store), is an Antique Mall. Now, typically, this is a look-and-don't-buy situation, but I found a fantastic bin there with all sorts of amazing little pins all through it and much to my surprise, I found these black-and-white beauties -- a horse and articulated peacock-- for only $5 apiece! Let me do a little research, but they look very 1930's to me.

I'll close a button-less cardigans with these, or pendant-ify it and put it on a thin, gold chain.

No Pants Rides Again!

Literally! This past Saturday marked the 7th Annual No Pants Subway ride. Good thing it was 50 degrees!

It's not supposed to be sexy (view "You too, can be iconically sexy in Old Navy!")... just irreverent. Many of the women wore boxers, which I don't think counts. If you're going to ride the subway pantsless, you ought to be wearing the underwear you normally wear, for maximum effect. Several brave ladies donned their thongs. Check it out:

Desperately Seeking Scarf!!!

UGH!!! I was just about to do a post about how my new inspiration is late 80's- early 90's Daytona Beach and how I'd found the PERFECT scarf to usher in my new aesthetic. At the thrift store, for a scant 90-cents, I found a black-and-white Hawaiian floral print scarf, huge, wrappable... with a hot pink, blue and purple tie-dye all through it. With fringe. With the Valvoline logo as a border. It was 6 or 7 a.m. before work, I stopped by the deli with my love, and somewhere between there, work and back my beloved scarf left me!!! And, I had just found the perfect purple moccasins to match.

UPDATE: Found! In the Lost and Found at work. Here's me wearing it to an interview today!

The 99-cent New Year's Eve Dress

I bought this sparkly cardigan at the Volunteers of America on Indianola in Columbus, OH back in June. It has huge dolman sleeves and black, banded trim at the placket, hem and cuffs and has one velcro closure at the bottom hem, creating a long v-necked shape.

In a New Year's Eve pinch, I threw the jacket on on top of black tights and heels and brought the top of the dress together with a giant c.z. stud and went! A red cocktail ring to match the red accents in the shoes and clear drops completed the look. And the dress was a cool 99-cents.
