Baby, can you get that rock for me?

I loved this picture of the most darlingly prim Marcine at first sight:

If you've never seen her before, she is an adorable little lady in the most vintage of ways! Check out her blog here.

That color! The perfect length! The off-beatly coordinating umbrella! The little shoes! Mwah! I wonder... is she into Pizzicato Five?

Shelving CD's today, I remembered that I was supposed to get into Pizzicato Five, but got distracted by Cibo Matto. When I perused the liner notes, this image startled me into exclaiming to my co-worker, "Hey! I know this girl who--- uh--- hmmm..." the story, like all stories that originate from the internet, quickly died on my lips. All I knew is that the girl from Pizzicato Five looks awesome and I had to see --and hear-- more.

And the sound is even better! Unless you hate all things good and right, there is no way you will not love P5's fun retro pop!

Debut... on so many levels...

I think I've provisionally decided to take a photo of myself every day of this last quarter; maybe even the year. This is my year, for sure, and I'd like to remember myself in it!

Turtleneck: Victoria's Secret. Chain necklace: thrifted. Floral corduroy mini: thrifted. Black tights: Target. Lace-up granny boots: Dolce Vita. Suitcase: Vintage, Etsy.

Today was the first day of my last quarter as an undergraduate. Today was also the first day that I've used my vintage plaid suitcase for book-toting, the first time I've worn a black turtleneck since 3rd grade (then, to complement a sweatshirt with a sparkling, harlequin clown applique), and the first time I've taken a photo of my puss with one of my favorite Christmas presents, a Canon Powershot G10. Better (and brighter!) pictures to come! Hawt!

Speaking of "hawt" and college days, check out these photos of our own President-elect, mugging fashionably in 1980. He works that hat! These are part of a roll that then-student photographer Lisa Jack took for her portfolio; they never saw the light of day (and were even under lock and key!) until after the election.

You can read the whole story at Time Magazine's site.

Starting off on the right foot...

Tomorrow is the first day of my last quarter at school. Texts are yet to be bought, my bookbag lies wan and flaccid in the corner. Tomorrow's schedule is an afterthought; tonight I'm obsessed with wonderfully weird shoes.

The shoe version of an extraordinarily classy mullet: Minimalist and pointy in front, Indiana Jones'-style plunder in back.

"The designer's Martian, you know, but he has such a keen feel for the human foot."

Irregular Choice

Kite-flying, picnics, cotton candy, extra-huge teacups and one crazy-insane haberdasher.

Get this-- the heel is actually a wheel. Something about these shoes has me fantasizing about winning a particularly cunning poker game in Vegas. As I rake in my winnings, I address the table from over my dark sunglasses: "That's how I roll." A twisted, knowing smile fades as quickly as it appeared.

Now that I've got all this off my chest, let me get my head back in the game. I'll start by packing a lunch for myself to take tomorrow, as part of my one and only New Year's Resolution. I don't typically take much stock in New Year's Resolutions; I think they prevent people from trying to change on an ongoing basis. Disbeliever that I am, I managed to make this one New Year's Resolution this year, though: to rely more on the power of groceries and my cooking, and less on restaurants and take-out.

Happy 2009!

New, new, all types of new.

I hope
you all are having a nice holiday break... and bracing yourself for the year to come! That's the rub with December-- the pacing's all wrong. Consumer hubris for 24 days, a 3-day stint of inertia, followed by the greased laundry chute of New Year preparations.

Starting tomorrow, this year will be one of the most milestoned of my life!

What I wish I were wearing, minus the whiskey tango hair. Fur vest: 80'spurple.com. Gloves: Modcloth. Cocktail ring: Girlprops. Shoes (lust! on sale!): Anthropologie. Galactic Tights: We Love Colors. Necklace, earrings: Girlprops. Dress: Delia's.

1) We're having a huge New Year's Eve party... I can't wait!

2) My sweety surprised me with a trip to Florida for my birthday (in a couple weeks!) Damn, yo!

3) I'll be graduating in March. Kaloo-kalay!

4) There are rumblings of us taking a trip to Belize shortly thereafter.

5) We're getting a dog!

6) I'll be getting my first grown-up style job.

7) I'm moving in with my sweet-tart-- and marrying him. If you could see me now, I'm sighing with bluebirds flying around my head.

In all the hubbub, I nearly forgot my blog's year anniversary! You can check out my first post here. Aww!!! I'd like to thank everyone who gives Spandexpony a read, and an extra special thank you to those of you who leave your comments and make a gal feel heard.

Now see this!

Trust that if the phrase "Starkly beautiful and poignant vampire movie" strikes any chord at all with you, or even if it doesn't, you must go see "Let the Right One In". An emotionally accurate coming-of-age tale, set in the white-on-white beauty of Sweden. Also, some of the most intense aural gore I've experienced outside of having my ear to the bathroom door of a Taco Bell.
